About Playa Guiones
Below is a list of things to consider when planning a trip to Costa Rica and a stay with one of our beach front properties. If you have any questions beyond what we provide below you can always contact us and we’ll be happy to answer your questions.
Rentals
Playa Guiones has many rentals; bikes, scooters, surfboards, golf carts, cars, umbrellas, beach chairs, and quads to help you get around the area. Most places are within a 5-10 minute walk but other local attractions are better reached via some kind of rental vehicle.
Restaurants
We have many great restaurants and everyone of course has their favorites. The top of my list includes; Marlin Bill’s for great steak or fish, La Dolce Vida for the best Italian, Pancho’s for Mexican and pizza, Beach Dog Café for breakfast and lunch (great wraps and free phone calls to the USA and Canada and wireless!), Harmony Hotel for the more healthy conscious, Robyn’s Ice Cream for ice cream and wraps, Rancho Tico for a local flavor, La Luna for a sunset cocktail on the beach, and finally Lagarta Lodge for the most spectacular sunset bar and dinner.
Activities and Local Favorites
Fishing is a huge sport here in Nosara. We have several great captains and can recommend someone for you. Generally fishing is $400 for half day and $700 for full day. Prices vary.
Pilates Nosara is located in the Heart of Guiones Wellness Center/Tica Massage. They offer daily mat classes, private and group reformer classes, and Balanced Body Teacher Training. Pilates is an excellent workout perfect for the serene to extreme athlete.

Yoga is very popular in our area. The Nosara Yoga Institute is world renown for their program and also offers instructor training.
Surfing is probably our biggest draw. Playa Guiones is known for its year-round surf and perfect waves. We do have many surf shops in town with many instructors. If you’re interested in classes and rentals we suggest you contact [email protected]. The shop is Coconut Harry’s and they are very reputable in town.
Quads are a blast! You can rent quads and be on your own or you can hire a guide to take you through the mountains, jungle, rivers; a trip you’ll never forget.
Canopy Tour is a must in Costa Rica. Commonly known as zip-lining; we have the longest lines in the world here in Nosara. Supposedly!
And to wrap up activities there’s walking the beach, running, biking, or just relaxing and reading a good book.
Turtles are a definite must see. Just 30-mintutes north of Nosara is Playa Ostional. It’s renowned for the Olive Ridley turtles that often come in by the thousands at one time. Depending on the phase of the moon and the time of year, you’ll witness turtles arriving to the beach to lay their eggs.
Food and Water
Costa Rica in general prides itself with water quality. Certainly here in Nosara/Playa Guiones we have wonderful, clean, tasty water. And generally the larger restaurants and Sodas always have good quality food. Be cautious with the little road-side carts.
Entertainment and Night Life
Most nights you’ll be able to find local music in our town. Depending on the time of year entertainment can be more or less. Often times the establishments bring in an artist to rock the town. Best thing to do is pick up a schedule when you arrive so you don’t miss out on anything. And by schedule I mean ask around!
Medical
We have a medical and dental clinic with daily hours. In case of emergency they have 24-hour service.
Money
Most establishments prefer to take bills under $50 and usually $20’s are best. We have an ATM in town and it takes Visa. (no Master Card). It’s possible to use both credit cards for charges on meals, shops, accommodations most everywhere.
Insects
If you are susceptible to insect bites you may want to take a little precaution. Different times of year can bring out flying bugs more or less. Generally the early mornings and early evenings are the times to watch.
Don’t forget to bring
